This had to be one of the best performances in our history. With all the Shotokan Alliance groups in attendance and large groups from Holland, Ireland and Scotland these results were just unbelievable and just shows the depth of the squad in general; and this was with two of our top competitors missing (Daniel White and Alexis Raymen). Highlights of the day were Sensei Adam Cockfield taking the Men’s Senior Kumite title, which was by far the largest kumite entry on the day. His superb Ura-Mawashigeri in the final against SEKU’s top fighter, Dave Galloway was judged to be the technique of the day. The final of this event was shobu-sanbon (three whole points) and Adam went on to take this title 6-1. Adam never lost one single fight in all the kumite events he entered and considering the prestigious competitors he had to face in all events, this was a feat in itself. Adam also took second place in the Men’s Senior Kata event and was just pipped by the smallest of margins in the final with both competitors performing kata Unsu. He then proceeded to take three silver medals in the team events and therefore was presented with the beautiful Samurai trophy for Male Competitor of the Day. Aaron Gould made it five Legend titles in a row with his excellent rendition of kata Unsu in the final. Thomas Carson took three gold medals in the three events he was allowed to enter. The boy’s kata team won the event by a mile with an excellent Kanku-sho. Claire Cerins took a well-deserved first place trophy in the girl’s kumite and Danny Richards also took a gold in the junior sanbon kumite event.

Many other SSKI individual competitors and teams came so close to taking gold as you can see by the silver medal tally. Well done to all competitors (whether you took a trophy or not this time) and also to the three SSKI referees who did a brilliant job on the day and it was great to see our referees getting involved again in major tournaments

And finally congratulations to Sensei Adam Cockfield (SSKI Coach) and Sensei Malcolm Phipps (SSKI Team Manager) for their sterling work in achieving these wonderful results and, of course, a big thanks to all the mums/dads/grannies/grandads/brothers/sisters and other family members for their excellent support.

Here’s to the next one!!!
